An analytical sampling system is the fluid-handling network that draws a representative process sample, carries it, and conditions it for pressure, temperature, flow, filtration and phase before sending it on to an online or offline analyzer. Here, "analytical sampling" means process-fluid sample handling for gas and liquid analyzers, not statistical data sampling, environmental grab-sampling kits, or medical specimen sampling. Drawings, datasheets and RFQs rarely agree on what to call this thing, but Crestflo's component set doesn't miss a single version of the name. It shows up as an analytical sample system, an analyzer sample system, or the UK-spelled analyser sampling system; as a sample conditioning system (SCS), a sample handling system, or a sample transport system; and, on some sheets, simply as a process analyzer sampling system. Configuration adds still more names: a closed-loop sampling system, a fast-loop or bypass-loop sampling system, a field-station sampling system, a stream-switching or stream-selection system, a sample recovery or sample return system. For a quick grab, the terms are grab sampling system or spot sampling system. Whatever the label, the engineering goal never moves: deliver a representative sample with minimum lag and dead volume, in the right phase, without harming the analyzer.

How an Analytical Sampling System Is Built: Sub-Systems & Crestflo Components

Alloy Selection by Sample Media & Corrosion Driver

Sample chemistry decides the right alloy, not the analyzer. What's in the media, and what's driving the corrosion, sets the requirement. For clean gas and liquid sampling, 316/316L serves as the baseline. Sour service, chlorides, HF and strongly oxidizing streams push the specification into duplex, super-austenitic and nickel alloys. Crestflo covers each grade in broad strokes, but it only supplies material in instrumentation forms: fittings, valves and tubing. Bar, sheet, plate and mill product aren't part of what it offers. Gas, Liquid, High-Purity & Sour Sampling: Media-Specific Notes

One component set covers gas sampling systems, liquid sampling systems, natural-gas sampling, hydrogen sampling, LNG sampling and steam/condensate sampling. What shifts is the alloy, the seal and the cleanliness, and that's dictated by the media. For high-purity and oxygen-service sampling, Crestflo supplies electropolished 316L tubing, VCR face-seal fittings, high-purity regulators and bellows (packless) valves for zero-leak stems, with oxygen and UHP cleaning carried out to published protocols. Standard oxygen-service and high-purity cleaning follows ASTM G93 and CGA G4.1. Sample Probes & Coolers: the Honest Scope Boundary

Crestflo's fittings, valves and tubing connect to third-party sample probes, insertion probes and sample coolers, but the company doesn't manufacture those parts itself. A complete sampling system needs a probe at the process tap and, for hot or condensable streams, a cooler too, both sit outside what Crestflo sells. Sampling cylinders and grab sampling systems are a different story: those are genuine Crestflo products, covered above.

The same line gets drawn around phase-change conditioning. Streams that need to flash from liquid to gas before reaching the analyzer call for a vaporizing regulator (sometimes called a vaporizer regulator) or a standalone sample vaporizer. When that job simplifies down to a heated pressure-reducing regulator, it falls under Crestflo's pressure regulators. But a dedicated vaporizing regulator or sample vaporizer isn't something Crestflo lists in its catalog. That specialty piece belongs to the sample-system integrator.

So when a build calls for a full bill of materials, the split is clean: Crestflo handles every wetted metal component, and the probe, cooler and vaporizer go to a specialist supplier.

Standards, Testing & Traceability for Sampling Components

Crestflo holds the standard approvals that apply to each product type. Sampling fittings qualify to ASTM F1387 dimensional-interchange performance. Sampling valves are a different story: they qualify to ASME B16.34 and whatever API valve standards apply. You'll find the governing references and their standard pages listed in the table.
