How a Toggle Valve Works: Quarter-Turn & Straight-Through Quick Shut-Off
A toggle valve gives fast, repeatable on/off isolation: flipping the lever drives the stem or plug fully open or fully closed in one motion, with no multi-turn handwheel and no throttling in between. That single positive action makes it the fastest manual way to start or stop a line, which is why it is chosen over a multi-turn needle valve where flow adjustment is not required. Depending on the internal mechanism it is offered as a quarter-turn toggle valve or a straight-through (in-line) toggle valve, both actuated by the same lever.
A 3-way toggle "switch" valve selects between two flow paths or vents downstream pressure by flipping the lever; a 2-way toggle simply isolates a single line. Unlike the brass pneumatic-air toggles that dominate the low-pressure market, every Crestflo toggle valve is built in stainless or a high-performance corrosion-resistant alloy, no brass. Toggle Valve Pressure, Temperature & Seat-Seal Ratings
Pressure–temperature capability is set per the ASME B16.34 valve rating basis and by the seat/seal material. Exact cold working pressure depends on size, alloy and seat; values are per the applicable standard and customizable to requirement, specify your service conditions on the RFQ and the engineering team will confirm the rating for your build. For a high-pressure toggle valve in 3,000 psi or 6,000 psi instrument-gas service, specify your working pressure and the engineering team will confirm the seat and alloy, a PCTFE seat and the appropriate alloy body are selected to suit the working pressure. Orifice size and flow coefficient (Cv) vary by size and porting pattern, request the Cv / orifice data for your build. Finishes, Cleaning & Ferrule Options
Standard and specified finishes include material finish, electropolish, passivation and silver anti-galling plating on threaded components. For oxygen and high-purity gas service, cleaning to a specified cleanliness class can be quoted, state your target (for example ASTM G93 or CGA G-4.1 oxygen-clean) on the RFQ. Tube-fitting ends use hardened or non-hardened ferrules to requirement.
