Scope note: kitting and VMI here refer to instrumentation-component supply, fitting, valve, manifold, regulator and tubing kits, plus stocking programs for fluid-system work. This isn't general 3PL fulfillment, retail kitting, or food/CPG co-packing.

What Kitting and Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI) Mean

Kitting means packing every piece from one bill of materials, tube fittings, ferrules, valves, tubing and accessories, into a single labeled kit built for one panel, skid or project. It ships ready to install. That beats sending loose line items a fabricator then has to pick apart and reconcile by hand.

Vendor-managed inventory (VMI) is a supply program where the supplier owns the replenishment decision. Crestflo tracks agreed min/max levels and refills your stock against them, so your line or shelf gets topped up without you raising a purchase order every time. Under a consignment arrangement, the stock sits with you, but title stays with the supplier until you draw the part. Kitting answers what goes together. VMI answers how it stays available.

Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI), Consignment & Integrated Supply

Crestflo's VMI or consignment program works well for master distributors carrying a line card and equipment manufacturers building to a repeating BOM. You share a forecast or usage history, and we set min/max levels, including the safety stock (buffer stock) that cushions demand swings. We build to that forecast and replenish against it. Standard items ship from ready stock. Specials are made to order on a 6–8 week delivery basis. That's the whole point of a VMI buffer: a running program absorbs that build time, so replenishment feels immediate at your point of use.

What does vendor-managed inventory (VMI) mean?

What is kitting?

Kitting takes every part on a bill of materials, fittings, ferrules, valves, tubing and accessories, and bundles them into a single labeled kit, ready to install on a panel, skid or project.

Can you give an example of VMI?

Crestflo builds to a distributor's quarterly forecast of about 500 assorted 316L tube-fitting kits, holds an agreed buffer, and replenishes on scheduled release. That way the distributor never runs out of stock, and there's no need to raise a PO each cycle.

What is the difference between VMI and consignment?

Both keep parts close to where they'll be used. With consignment, the supplier owns the stock until you draw it; with a plain VMI setup, the stock can get billed once it's replenished. Where title actually transfers is spelled out in your program agreement.

Does the kit come with material certificates?

Every part is heat-number marked with EN 10204 MTC 3.1 as standard, and 3.2 on request. The certs consolidate into one package per kit.
