A quick note on scope: on this page, instrumentation means small-bore process fluid-system components. Here, a needle valve or ball valve is an instrumentation valve, not a carburetor or plumbing valve. A compression fitting, meanwhile, is a stainless or alloy instrumentation fitting rather than a copper plumbing one. And when we say manifold, we mean a valve manifold, not an exhaust or PEX manifold.

What Are Instrumentation Fittings and Valves?
An instrumentation fitting is a small-bore, high-integrity connector. It joins tubing and instruments in a process fluid or gas system, using a leak-tight compression (ferrule), face-seal, flare or welded connection. An instrumentation valve is a different piece of the puzzle: the small-bore valve that isolates, regulates, blocks or samples in those same instrument and analyzer lines, whether that's a needle, ball, check, manifold, block-and-bleed or bleed type. Regulators, accessories and tubing join them, and together they form the fluid-system envelope around every gauge, transmitter and analyzer. What is an instrumentation fitting?
An instrumentation fitting is a small-bore connector built for high integrity. It joins tubing to instruments in a process fluid or gas system, and the seal must hold: no leaks, whether achieved through compression with a ferrule, a face-seal, a flare, or a weld. Are valves considered instrumentation?
Small-bore valves that isolate, regulate, block-and-bleed or sample in instrument and analyzer lines are instrumentation valves, not large process pipeline valves. That covers needle, ball, check, manifold, double-block-and-bleed and bleed valves.
What are the different types of instrumentation valves?

What are the 7 types of valves?
Seven valve types make up the classic list: ball, needle, check, plug, diaphragm, relief and gate. In small-bore instrumentation work, though, the gate slot rarely gets filled by an actual gate valve; a valve manifold or block-style isolation valve usually takes its place. Crestflo's instrumentation line covers all seven, and adds double-block-and-bleed (DBB), bleed, metering and toggle valves on top. What are the four main categories of instrumentation fittings?
