What Are Instrumentation Accessories in a Process Hook-Up?
An instrumentation accessory is any supporting component that sits between a process line and the primary instrument, a gauge, transmitter or analyzer, so that instrument reads accurately and holds up in service. The primary instrument does the measuring. The accessories around it handle the protecting, isolating, mounting, sampling and filtering, and that's what makes the reading trustworthy and the installation something you can actually maintain.

Syphons and condensate pots come in both carbon steel and stainless. Snubbers are available in brass, too, wherever the service allows for it. When the duty turns corrosive, sour or high-purity, stainless and high-nickel options take over.

Accessory Materials: 316 Stainless, Duplex, Inconel, Hastelloy, Monel & Titanium
Instrumentation accessories come from the same alloy families used in Crestflo fittings and valves - they're machined and fabricated, not cast from something cheaper. Brass and aluminum don't make the cut as headline materials. Which grade you pick depends on the process medium: its temperature, chloride levels, and H2S content.

Standards, Certifications & Traceability
Crestflo holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and PED certification. Every accessory meets the approval standard that applies to its type. Bar-stock accessories comply with ASTM A479 / A276. Socket-weld and threaded end forms follow ASME B16.11, and NPT threads meet ASME B1.20.1. Where specified, thermowell wake-frequency design is evaluated to ASME PTC 19.3 TW. Sour-service material options, meanwhile, follow NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156.
Every part carries a heat/lot number stamped directly on it and ships as standard with an EN 10204 MTC 3.1 certificate. Ask, and we'll supply an MTC 3.2 with third-party endorsement instead. Crestflo keeps these certificates on file within our quality system; the content pages themselves state conformance, not certificate numbers.
Accessories go through hydraulic proof, burst and impulse testing, pneumatic testing, and positive material identification (PMI). We handle non-destructive testing in-house. Destructive testing gets sent out to laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, and third-party inspection is available on request.

Start with the failure mode you're trying to prevent. That's what should drive your accessory selection. Match the service condition to the accessory class, then verify the alloy and rating against the RFQ before you finalize anything.
- High or fluctuating process temperature. Protect the sensor with a thermowell; match the stem length and alloy to the medium.
- Pressure pulsation or spikes. Dampen the gauge with a pressure snubber rated to 6,000 psi.
- Overpressure risk to a gauge. Fit a gauge saver that cuts off the instant an excursion occurs.
- Steam or condensing vapor. Isolate the instrument with a pigtail or coil syphon, or use a condensate pot instead.
- Particulates in the line. An inline or tee-type filter keeps the instrument protected.
- Representative sampling. Draw the sample with a sampling cylinder or a grab-sampling system.

What tools do instrument technicians use to install tube fittings?
Tube benders, depth gauges and gap-inspection gauges, along with the correct spare ferrules and nuts. Supplied as tube-installation tools and fitting spares, they give a technician what's needed to make and verify a compliant pull-up in the field.
What are the main components of an instrument hook-up?
The primary instrument doesn't work alone. It needs accessories, and those accessories fall into five roles. Protection comes first: thermowells, snubbers, gauge savers. Then isolation and condensing, handled by syphons and condensate pots. Distribution runs through an air-distribution manifold. For sampling, you've got cylinders and grab systems. And filtration relies on inline and tee-type filters. Tubing, fittings, valves and clamps hold the whole assembly together.
What is a thermowell and how long can it be?
A thermowell is a protective sheath machined from bar stock, built to shield a temperature sensor, and it comes with flanged or threaded process connections. Lengths run up to 1 m. The main advantage is simple: you can pull the sensor without opening up the process. Stainless steel works fine for general service. For harsher conditions, high-chloride media especially, high-nickel alloys get machined in instead.
Why use a snubber or a gauge saver?
A snubber calms pressure pulsation. That gives the gauge a steady reading and keeps its internal movement from wearing out. Crestflo snubbers carry a 6,000 psi rating. A gauge saver takes a different tack: it isolates the gauge once pressure climbs past a set point, so overpressure can't damage it.
Do accessories match Crestflo tube fittings and valves?
They do. Same alloy range, same connection standards. Crestflo compression fittings are qualified to ASTM F1387 for dimensional interchange with the major brands, so the accessory kit works with the rest of the hook-up.
