Buyers ask for these components under a lot of different names. You'll see the category written as petrochemical instrumentation fittings, chemical processing fittings, valves and tubing, chemical plant tube fittings, chemical process industry (CPI) fittings, petrochem fittings and valves, and corrosion-resistant instrumentation valves. Then there are the alloy-led searches: Alloy 20 fittings, 904L tube fittings, Hastelloy C-276 tube fittings, Monel 400 fittings, sour-service (NACE) fittings. These describe the same sourcing decision, just viewed through the process media instead. Strip away the labels and it all comes down to one question: which product form, in which alloy, to which standard, for a given corrosive or sour service.
Why Chemical Service Is Different: Chloride SCC, Sour H₂S, Strong Acids & Caustic
In petrochemical and chemical plants, 316L stainless holds its own as a starting point, but the service environment frequently asks more of it than it can give. Five corrosion drivers decide alloy selection on instrument lines:
Chloride-bearing process streams and cooling water wetting austenitic stainless will crack it once temperatures climb even modestly. That pushes material selection toward duplex and 6-moly grades.
Sour service is its own animal. Hydrogen sulfide drives sulfide-stress cracking and hydrogen-induced cracking, so any wetted metal has to qualify under NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156.
Strong acids complicate things further. Sulfuric, hydrochloric, hydrofluoric and nitric each need their own corrosion-resistant alloy, there's no single grade that handles all four.
Hot caustic and chlor-alkali service bring on caustic stress-corrosion cracking in stainless. Nickel-rich alloys hold up better here.
High temperatures bring their own problems. Furnace, reformer and cracker service breaks down ordinary stainless through oxidation and carburization, which is why nickel-chromium and iron-nickel alloys tend to get the call instead.
These drivers rarely work alone. So the correct specification ties the dominant driver, along with temperature, pressure and concentration, to a defined alloy, product form and standard. 316 and 316L work fine where the media is mild and dry. But once chloride content, H₂S partial pressure, acid concentration, caustic strength or metal temperature pushes past that grade's limit, it's time to step up. What tube-fitting alloys do you supply for chemical service?
The range covers 316 and 316L, along with 904L, Duplex 2205, and Super Duplex 2507. Round that out with 254 SMO, AL-6XN, and Alloy 20. Nickel-based options include Inconel 625 and 825, Incoloy 800 and 800H, and Monel 400 and K500. Hastelloy C-276, C-22, B-2, and B-3 are all available too, as are Nickel 200 and 201 and Titanium Gr2. Which alloy should I specify for sulfuric acid service?
For sulfuric acid service, Alloy 20 and 904L are the alloys you'll reach for most often; which one fits depends on acid concentration and temperature. Check the numbers against your service data. What do you recommend for HF (hydrofluoric acid) alkylation service?
Monel 400 or K500 is the go-to choice for hydrofluoric acid in HF alkylation units. Before locking in the specification, confirm it against your specific service conditions.
Which alloy handles hydrochloric acid or wet chlorine?
Hydrochloric acid and wet chlorine are reducing acids. Standard austenitic stainless can't handle them well. For that kind of service, engineers typically reach for Hastelloy C-276, C-22, or one of the B-series alloys, since these materials resist reducing-acid attack far better than austenitic stainless does.
Are your fittings and valves NACE-compliant for sour (H₂S) service?
Wetted components meet NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156, and NACE MR0103 for refinery and chemical service, wherever the specification requires it. Valves are qualified to ASME B16.34 and the relevant API standards.
Do you provide material traceability and test certificates?
Every part gets a heat/lot number, no exceptions. We supply EN 10204 MTC 3.1 as standard, with 3.2 available on request. Positive material identification (PMI) can also be arranged for verification.
Are your fittings a drop-in replacement for Swagelok or Parker?
Tube fittings do offer dimensional interchange, backed by ASTM F1387 performance qualification. Rather than publish a static chart, we invite you to request your Swagelok or Parker cross-reference, and our team will map your part numbers for you. What sizes and pressures do you cover?
Tube fittings run up to 2" (50 mm) OD, and valves cover 1/16"–1". Compression fittings handle up to 15,000 PSI, while cone-and-thread pushes as high as 30,000 PSI. Manifolds top out at 10,000 psi, and DBB units are rated to 3,000 psi. Everything comes in both imperial and metric, with values set per the applicable standard, and can be customized to whatever the job requires.
