What a Tube Clamp Is and What It Does

A tube support clamp holds a tube at a fixed outside diameter and transfers the load of the tube run into the mounting structure, so the tube does not resonate, deflect or wear against adjacent surfaces between supports. Because it grips on the outside diameter it works as a round tube clamp, a clamp for round tube of any wall, and as an anti-vibration, vibration-damping tube clamp that stops the run resonating; these are tube clamps for metal tube, meaning rigid stainless, alloy and carbon-steel process and instrument lines. Tube Clamp Anatomy: Clamp Body, Cover Plate, Weld Plate & Bolts

A complete tube clamp assembly comprises the clamp body (the two clamp halves or "blocks" that cradle the tube), a cover plate (also called a top plate) that compresses the halves, a weld plate or bolted mounting plate that fixes the assembly to the structure, and the bolt set that draws it together. Naming each element lets you order a matched kit, clamp halves, plate and bolts, rather than loose parts.
