Specifiers, panel fabricators and MRO buyers each have their own name for this family, yet the same components get quoted under any of them. You'll see them specified as pressure gauge accessories, instrument gauge accessories, pressure gauge fittings, gauge fittings, gauge mounting accessories, a pressure gauge accessory kit, or just gauge hardware. Individual devices carry their own names as well: a gauge saver (also called an over-pressure or over-range protector, gauge protector, gauge guard or gauge shield), a pressure snubber or gauge snubber, a syphon (pigtail or coil syphon), a gauge valve (gauge cock, gauge isolator or gauge shut-off), a gauge root valve, a gauge adapter or bushing, a gauge tee or test tee, a diaphragm seal (chemical seal), a flushing ring, and a gauge mounting bracket, U-clamp or panel-mount. No single UNS or trade designation covers the whole family. Each component instead falls under the thread, fitting and material standards specific to its type.

What Pressure Gauge Accessories Do: Isolation, Protection, Cooling, Sealing & Mounting

A pressure gauge is a precision instrument. The accessories built around it exist for one reason: to keep it accurate and keep it working. Each accessory handles one of five jobs on the line between the process tap and the gauge itself.

A gauge valve sits at the isolation point, some call it a gauge cock, a gauge isolator, or a root/needle valve. It shuts the gauge off so someone can test it or swap it out without draining the whole line.

Over-pressure protection comes from a gauge saver, also known as an over-range protector or gauge guard. It works as a pressure-limiting valve, closing off the gauge once pressure climbs past a set point, and that keeps the movement safe from surges.

For pulsation dampening and cooling, a snubber restricts flow to smooth out pressure spikes. On steam service, a pressure gauge syphon (sometimes called a pigtail or coil steam syphon) or a condensate pot forms a cool liquid leg instead.

Sealing is handled by a diaphragm, or chemical, seal along with its flushing ring. Together they keep the gauge away from media that's viscous, corrosive, or prone to crystallizing.

Gauge Fittings & Adapters: Adapters, Bushings, Nipples, Test Tees & Back/Bottom Connect

Crestflo's gauge fittings on this hub form the connection hardware between the process and the gauge itself. That includes gauge adapters and reducing bushings, which step a 1/2" tap down to a 1/4" gauge stem; gauge nipples; multi-port gauge tees and test tees, letting a test gauge be teed onto a live point; and back-connect or bottom-connect arrangements to suit the gauge case. Made in stainless steel across the full alloy range, these fittings come with male and female process and gauge ends, in both imperial and metric threads. They're held to the same traceability standard as the rest of the family.

Gauge Isolators, Cocks & Isolation Valves: Isolate a Gauge Without Draining the Line

A gauge valve, sometimes called a gauge cock, gauge isolator, or gauge root valve, is a compact shut-off fitted directly at the gauge. It lets you zero the gauge, test it, or swap it out without pulling the line out of service. Simple, but essential.

Full isolation with a bleed or calibration port calls for something more, though. That duty shifts to a gauge root valve or a pressure gauge needle valve. Crestflo's gauge root valve and needle valve pages lay out the full pressure gauge valve range, so check those for specifics.

Differential-pressure gauges work differently. There, the isolate-and-equalize function sits with a 3-valve or 5-valve manifold.

None of this is built on a tube-fitting basis. Instrumentation valves qualify to ASME B16.34 and the applicable API valve standards rather than a tube-fitting basis.

Gauge Mounting Brackets, U-Clamps, Panel & Surface Mounts

Mounting hardware carries the physical weight of the gauge and keeps vibration off the process connection. Crestflo offers wall / surface brackets, U-clamps and panel-mount hardware, built to fit common 2", 2.5" and 4" gauge cases. There's also tube clamps for the impulse tubing that feeds the gauge. The mounting style, whether back, bottom, panel or surface, gets chosen to match the gauge case and the panel cut-out.

Gauge Accessory Connections & Threads: NPT, NPTF, BSPT, BSPP: 1/4″ & 1/2″

Most gauge accessories run on tapered NPT threads built to ASME B1.20.1. NPTF, BSPT, and parallel BSPP/ISO threads are available too, in both imperial and metric, and tube-fitting ends come into play wherever the accessory ties into an impulse line. Gauge connections most often come in 1/4" and 1/2". Thread values track whatever standard applies, and customization to spec is standard practice.

In line with US scope, stainless and alloy are the headline materials. Where a specific device is genuinely a carbon-steel or brass item in normal practice, some snubbers and syphon bodies, that option is stated honestly, but the family is led in stainless and CRA. What are pressure gauge accessories?

Isolators and gauge cocks, over-pressure gauge savers, pressure snubbers, syphons, diaphragm seals, adapters and mounting brackets: these are the fittings and protective devices fitted between the process and a pressure gauge. They isolate, protect, cool, dampen, seal and mount the gauge. That's what keeps it accurate and keeps it in service.

What does a snubber do for a pressure gauge?

A snubber chokes down the flow to the gauge, so pulsation and pressure spikes from pumps or compressors get damped out before they ever reach the movement. That protects the mechanism and stretches out the gauge's working life considerably. You'll find them in pressure gauge snubbers, offered in stainless steel rated to 6,000 psi.

What is a gauge protector or gauge saver?

A gauge saver is an over-pressure, or over-range, protector. It shuts off the gauge the moment pressure climbs past a set point, keeping the movement safe from surges, then opens back up once pressure drops back into the normal range. See gauge savers.

What are the different types of pressure gauge connections?

Most gauge accessories rely on tapered NPT threads made to ASME B1.20.1. NPTF, BSPT, and parallel BSPP or ISO threads are also on offer, in both imperial and metric sizes, and impulse lines typically use tube-fitting ends instead. As for gauge connections, 1/4" and 1/2" are the sizes you'll see most often.

How do I isolate a gauge for replacement without shutting the line?

Fit a gauge cock or gauge isolator right at the gauge, or put a gauge root valve or needle isolation valve at the process tap. That way the gauge can be tested or swapped out without taking the line out of service. See the gauge root valve and needle valve.

Which accessory cools hot or steam media before the gauge?

A pigtail or coil syphon, or a condensate pot, creates a cool liquid leg. That leg pulls the process temperature down right at the gauge, so steam heat never touches the movement.

What materials are gauge accessories available in?

Stainless 304, 316, and 904L through Duplex 2205, Super Duplex 2507, 254 SMO, AL-6XN, Alloy 20, Inconel, Incoloy, Monel, Hastelloy, Nickel 200/201, and Titanium Gr2. Carbon steel or brass only where a specific device is genuinely that material in normal practice, such as some snubbers and syphon bodies.

Are gauge accessories available for sour (NACE) service?
