20,000 PSI Instrumentation Fittings & Valves
Instrumentation and process fluid-system components fall into a medium-pressure, or MP, class once you hit the 20,000 psi tier. Fittings and valves here carry a cold working pressure of 20,000 PSI (1,379 bar, roughly 137.9 MPa) and connect through coned-and-threaded joints. Crestflo covers this tier with high-pressure cone-and-thread fittings rated up to 30,000 psi. They're offered in 316/316L stainless plus a full range of nickel and corrosion-resistant alloys. Every one carries a heat/lot number, and an EN 10204 MTC 3.1 certificate ships as standard. Stock is available for standard items; everything else is made to order, with delivery running 6-8 weeks.
A word on scope first. On this page, 20,000 psi means the cold working-pressure rating for instrumentation and process fluid-system components, specifically medium-pressure coned-and-threaded fittings and valves. It has nothing to do with oilfield frac or pumping iron, nothing to do with plumbing, and it isn't a burst or test-only figure.
The 20,000 PSI Tier Is Also Known as Medium Pressure, 20K PSI & 1,379 Bar
That's the same pressure wearing different names. The 20,000 psi tier also shows up as 20000 psi, 20 000 psi, 20k psi, and 20-ksi, or in metric as 1,379 bar, roughly 137.9 MPa. Coned-and-threaded high-pressure nomenclature slots it into the medium-pressure (MP) class: above low-pressure (LP), which tops out at 15,000 psi, and below high-pressure (HP), which reaches 60,000 psi. When placing an order, specifiers might call it "rated to 20,000 PSI," "20,000 psi cold working pressure (CWP)," "20,000 psi working pressure," the "MP coned-and-threaded class," or "20,000 psi medium-pressure fittings and valves."
What the 20,000 PSI (Medium-Pressure) Tier Is: PSI, Bar & MPa
Twenty thousand pounds per square inch, or 20,000 PSI, describes a cold working pressure. It's not a burst rating. Convert the unit and you get 20,000 psi ≈ 1,379 bar ≈ 137.9 MPa. Within the coned-and-threaded pressure ladder that high-pressure instrumentation relies on, 20,000 psi sits at the medium-pressure step. It's strong enough to require a gland-and-collar coned-and-threaded joint instead of a compression ferrule, yet it stays under the roughly 60,000 psi ceiling that marks the high-pressure end of the same connection family. The table below shows where this tier fits and links the steps on either side; the conversions are the standard rounded industry figures.
| Coned-and-threaded class | psi | bar | MPa | Tier page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low pressure (LP) | 15,000 | 1,034 | 103.4 | 15,000 psi tier |
| Medium pressure (MP) | 20,000 | 1,379 | 137.9 | This page |
| High pressure (HP) | 60,000 | 4,137 | 413.7 | 60,000 psi tier |
For lower ratings that use compression tube fittings instead of coned-and-threaded joints, see the 3,000 psi, 6,000 psi and 10,000 psi tiers. Or browse the full high-pressure fittings & valves range. One thing worth flagging: "autoclave fittings" is a common trade name for this coned-and-threaded medium-pressure hardware. It refers to the connection method itself, not to a laboratory autoclave. The same coned-and-threaded medium-pressure fittings also turn up beyond process and instrumentation service, on waterjet-cutting intensifier lines, and on research and laboratory high-pressure rigs. Still the instrumentation MP class described here, though. Not frac or pumping iron, and not plumbing hardware.
Qualifying Products at 20,000 PSI: Cone-and-Thread Fittings & MP Valves
The medium-pressure tier pulls together several product types by rating, not by family. At its center sits the high-pressure cone-and-thread fitting: Crestflo's coned-and-threaded fitting range carries a rating up to 30,000 psi. That's what keeps the entire 20,000 PSI tier well inside its proven working range. Valve bodies for this 20,000 psi tier get configured to order on a coned-and-threaded medium-pressure design. The certified cold working pressure for a given valve type, size and material gets confirmed on the RFQ.

High-Pressure Ball, Needle & Gauge Valves for the 20,000 PSI Tier
Three high-pressure workhorses anchor the valve line at this tier, all built on a coned-and-threaded medium-pressure body. The high-pressure ball valve handles positive on/off isolation for a 20,000 PSI line. It's built to the MP tier with coned-and-threaded ends, available in floating- or trunnion-ball designs, full-port or reduced-port, and the certified cold working pressure for a given size and material gets confirmed on the RFQ. Metering and gauge isolation fall to the high-pressure needle valve. This one comes with a hardened, non-rotating stem tip and coned-and-threaded ends, giving fine flow control and a tight metal-seat shut-off at 20,000 psi. A high-pressure gauge valve, offered in gauge-root or block-and-bleed style, isolates and vents a pressure instrument on that same coned-and-threaded MP body. Check valves, NRVs and relief valves round out the range, all on identical coned-and-threaded builds.
You'll find bleed and metering valves for high-pressure sampling and gauge-isolation work at this tier on the bleed valve page. Matching an existing installation? Request your part-number cross-reference and list the tier, size, ends and material.
20,000 PSI Connections & Sizing: Coned-and-Threaded Glands, 1/4", 3/8" & 9/16" MP
At 20,000 psi, the joint takes the form of a coned-and-threaded connection. The tube end gets coned, and a left-hand thread is cut so a gland nut and collar can draw the cone into the mating fitting. That produces a metal-to-metal seal, something a compression ferrule can't hold at this pressure. The medium-pressure class relies on the standard MP line sizes of 1/4", 3/8" and 9/16" (plus their metric equivalents). Tube outside diameter and wall thickness follow the applicable coned-and-threaded standard, and both can be customized to requirement. NPT ends conform to ASME B1.20.1, and adapter connections are supplied where rated. Crestflo covers the connection design in depth on its cone-and-thread fittings page; for tube OD selection, see the tube OD reference. Both imperial and metric sizes are available, rated to 20,000 PSI.

Standards, Certifications & Traceability for the 20,000 PSI Tier
Crestflo holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and PED certification. At this tier, approvals track the product type. Coned-and-threaded and compression fittings are performance-qualified to ASTM F1387. Valves, meanwhile, qualify to ASME B16.34 and the applicable API testing standards for pressure, temperature basis and shell and seat testing. Bar stock conforms to ASTM A479/A276, and tube conforms to ASTM A269 / A213 where supplied.
Each part carries a heat/lot number marked on the part and ships standard with an EN 10204 MTC 3.1 certificate. MTC 3.2, with third-party endorsement, is available on request. Crestflo keeps certificates on file within its quality system, so the content pages don't list certificate numbers; they just confirm conformance. Testing at this tier covers a good deal of ground: hydraulic proof, burst and impulse testing, pneumatic testing, seat and shell leak testing, and positive material identification (PMI). In-house teams handle the non-destructive testing; destructive testing gets outsourced to ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratories, and third-party inspection can be arranged on request.
Interchange & Drop-In for Autoclave Engineers® and Parker Autoclave® MP
Crestflo medium-pressure fittings and valves are built for dimensional interchange with the established coned-and-threaded MP lines. That means a 20,000 psi joint can be swapped out without re-engineering the run. Autoclave Engineers®, Parker Autoclave® and HiP® are trademarks of their respective owners. Crestflo isn't affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by those companies, and its parts are described as interchange or equivalent, never "compatible" or "intermix." Fittings carry ASTM F1387 performance qualification behind them. Instead of publishing a part-number table, request your medium-pressure cross-reference and our engineering team will map your existing MP part to the Crestflo equivalent.

20,000 PSI Fittings & Valves FAQs
What is a 20,000 psi valve or fitting?
This is an instrumentation or process fluid-system component rated for 20,000 psi (1,379 bar / ~137.9 MPa) cold working pressure. Engineers place it in the 20,000 PSI class, the medium-pressure tier that relies on coned-and-threaded connections. Crestflo serves this tier with high-pressure cone-and-thread fittings rated up to 30,000 psi. Coned-and-threaded medium-pressure valve bodies? They're configured to order, with the certified rating confirmed on the RFQ.
Is 20,000 psi high pressure or medium pressure?
In coned-and-threaded terminology, 20,000 psi sits in the medium-pressure (MP) class. Low-pressure tops out at 15,000 psi, while high-pressure runs up to about 60,000 psi. All three rely on the same gland-and-collar connection method.
What is 20,000 psi in bar?
20,000 psi is approximately 1,379 bar, or about 137.9 MPa.
How much pressure can a ball valve hold?
It depends on the class of valve. General-purpose instrumentation ball valves top out around a few thousand psi. High-pressure ball valves are different: built to the medium-pressure (MP) tier, with coned-and-threaded ends, they hold 20,000 psi (1,379 bar). That's 20,000 PSI on some spec sheets. Coned-and-threaded high-pressure designs run higher still. Crestflo supplies MP and high-pressure ball valves across this whole range, and the certified cold working pressure for a specific size and material gets confirmed on the RFQ.
What connection do 20,000 psi fittings use?
This is a coned-and-threaded connection. The tube end gets coned, and a left-hand thread is cut into it, so a gland nut and collar can draw the cone down into a metal-to-metal seal. Where rated, NPT or adapter ends are supplied instead. You'll find the full design covered on the cone-and-thread fittings page.
What materials are available at 20,000 psi?
This tier covers 316/316L and 904L stainless steel, plus Super Duplex 2507, 254 SMO, AL-6XN and Alloy 20 (254 SMO and AL-6XN are the 6Mo super-austenitic grades). Inconel 625/718/825, Monel 400 and Hastelloy C-276 round out the nickel alloys, with Titanium Gr2 also available. Brass isn't offered at this level. Grade selection depends on the media, the temperature, and whether chloride or H2S exposure comes into play.
Can 20,000 psi components be NACE-compliant?
Yes. NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-compliant material options are available for sour and H2S service. Each shipment ships with full material traceability and heat-number marking to match.
Are Crestflo 20,000 psi fittings interchangeable with Autoclave Engineers® or Parker Autoclave® MP?
These parts are built to match the dimensions of those medium-pressure lines exactly, and the fittings carry a performance qualification under ASTM F1387. Autoclave Engineers®, Parker Autoclave® and HiP® belong to their respective trademark owners. Crestflo isn't affiliated with any of them. Call these parts interchange or equivalent, not "compatible." That distinction matters. Want a cross-reference for your medium-pressure setup? Reach out to our engineering team.
What is the lead time on 20,000 psi fittings and valves?
Ready stock covers standard items, and specials get made to order with delivery in 6-8 weeks, well under the 20-plus-week lead times you'd typically see from the majors. Small MOQ and private-label options are on the table. Standard product comes from India, though US or European melt is available on request wherever domestic-melt or TAA compliance is required.
What is the maximum psi for a brass valve at this tier?
Brass won't hold up under real pressure. It's a low-pressure material, plain and simple, and that rules it out for the 20,000 psi tier. Medium-pressure service is built exclusively from stainless, duplex, super-austenitic and nickel alloys. Nothing else on the list has the strength and corrosion resistance that the pressure and the media call for at 20,000 PSI.
How do I get a quote for 20,000 psi hardware?
Pricing runs on a quotation basis, no online cart here. Submit an RFQ specifying the tier, product type, size, end connections and material. Our engineering team will send back a quote, the certified rating and a lead time.
