The marquee anchor is North Slope arctic oil & gas. ConocoPhillips operates Prudhoe Bay-area, Kuparuk and Alpine interests plus the Willow project in the NPR-A (final investment decision December 2023, its federal approval upheld by a Ninth Circuit ruling in June 2025, first oil targeted 2029). Santos and Repsol, meanwhile, brought the Pikka development online with first oil on 18 May 2026, ramping toward an ~80,000 bpd plateau. It's the biggest new North Slope development in more than 20 years, and its crude routes to the Port of Valdez. Hilcorp Alaska operates Prudhoe Bay and legacy North Slope and Cook Inlet assets. ExxonMobil holds Point Thomson. All of it feeds the Alyeska-operated Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, an 800-mile, 48-inch line running from Prudhoe Bay to the Valdez Marine Terminal, the northernmost ice-free port in North America. That line averaged roughly 462,821 bpd in 2025.

Second comes refining and the proposed Alaska LNG. Marathon Petroleum runs the Kenai Refinery (~72,000 bpd on Cook Inlet), and Petro Star operates its Valdez and North Pole refineries, turning out ULSD, jet fuel and heating fuels. Alongside these sits the roughly $44B Alaska LNG project at Nikiski: an 807-mile, 42-inch pipeline paired with a ~20 Mtpa liquefaction terminal. Glenfarne took over as lead developer in January 2025; FEED is under way, with first gas targeted around 2029. It's a cryogenic LNG service demand through and through.

Third is hard-rock and placer mining. Teck's Red Dog, in the Northwest Arctic Borough, ranks among the world's largest zinc mines and produced 462,700 t of zinc in 2025. Add to that the Fort Knox (Kinross), Pogo (Northern Star) and Kensington (Coeur) gold operations, where acid/chloride leach and pressure-oxidation (POX) circuits push high-CRA selection.

Fourth is seafood processing at Dutch Harbor/Unalaska, the #1 U.S. Fishing port by volume for 26-plus consecutive years running. Major processors, including Trident Seafoods and Alyeska Seafoods, run sanitary food-and-beverage systems in a coastal, salt-air environment. A defense footprint at JBER and Eielson AFB rounds out the MRO demand.
