No region in the United States produces more oil than the Permian, which stretches across the Midland Basin and the deeper, often sourer Delaware Basin in West Texas and southeastern New Mexico. The fluids it produces are aggressive. Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) drives sulfide-stress cracking (SSC); carbon dioxide (CO₂) brings on sweet corrosion; and high-salinity produced and flowback water goes after stainless steels through chloride pitting and stress-corrosion cracking. Sour Service & NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 Compliance for H₂S Wellpads

Sour service means the fluid carries enough H₂S to put susceptible metals at risk of sulfide-stress cracking. NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 governs this environment by fixing metallurgical and hardness limits that keep an alloy resistant to SSC. Alloy choice runs along a ladder: baseline stainless for sweet service, duplex and super-austenitic grades once chlorides and CO₂ enter the picture, and nickel alloys when sour and chloride conditions combine at their worst. 316 and 316L serve as the starting point for sweet and utility service, generally speaking. Duplex 2205 and Super Duplex 2507 step in once CO₂ and chloride levels turn harsh. Compression fittings answer the question of what fittings show up in oil and gas work: leak-tight, reusable connections for small-bore tubing. Instrumentation fittings and valves show up at every sensing, isolation and injection point on a wellpad. On the wellhead and Christmas tree, needle and gauge-root valves isolate pressure gauges and transmitters, while hydraulic control lines feed surface and subsurface safety valves. That means 316/316L for utility and instrument-air runs, then stepping up to duplex, super-austenitic or nickel alloys for sour gas, produced water and disposal service.

Frac, wellhead and hydraulic control service on the Permian pushes past standard tube-fitting duty. Standards, Testing & Traceability for Permian Upstream Instrumentation

Compression tube fittings carry performance qualification to ASTM F1387, the standard that sets the dimensional and performance basis for drop-in interchange with the major brands. Instrumentation valves are a different matter. They qualify to the valve standards that actually apply: ASME B16.34, along with the relevant API pressure and seat-leak tests, not to F1387, since that's a compression-fitting standard. Materials meet the standard tube and bar specifications, and each part comes with full traceability.
