A 1/8" tube fitting is a mechanical-grip, or compression, fitting that terminates rigid tubing with a 1/8-inch (0.125") outside diameter. Advancing a nut over one or two ferrules grips the tube, forming a seal that's leak-tight and gaugeable. Wherever this document says 1/8" tube fitting, it means an instrumentation-grade stainless-steel or alloy compression fitting sized for 1/8-inch OD rigid tubing. It doesn't mean a brass or copper plumbing compression fitting. It's not a push-to-connect pneumatic fitting either, and it isn't an automotive AN or inverted-flare fitting.

What a 1/8" Compression Tube Fitting Is (Function & Scope)

A 1/8 in. Compression tube fitting seals through mechanical grip alone. Threading the nut onto the body drives the ferrule (or a twin-ferrule set) radially onto the 1/8 in. OD tube, colletting it firmly against the fitting's shoulder. The result: a metal-to-metal seal that holds pressure, won't loosen under vibration, and remakes reliably.

Since the fitting grips the tube's outside diameter, the "1/8 inch" designation always points to tube OD. It never refers to the bore or an ID.

Tube OD is what actually controls the fit. A 1/8" fitting takes nominal 0.125-inch OD tubing, roughly 3.18 mm, but that's an imperial-fractional size. Stainless 316/316L is the default alloy. Push into corrosion, high temperature, or sour service, and you'll need to move up the alloy ladder. Crestflo doesn't offer 1/8" instrumentation fittings in brass.

What size tube does a 1/8" tube fitting take?

It takes rigid tubing with a 1/8-inch (0.125") outside diameter. The fitting grips the tube's outer wall, so that's the dimension that counts, not the inside diameter and not the bore.

Is a 1/8" tube fitting the same as a 3 mm fitting?

No, it isn't. A 1/8" fitting measures 0.125", which comes out to about 3.18 mm. That's an imperial-fractional size, and it doesn't interchange with true 3 mm metric tube or fittings. Crestflo sells genuine metric sizes, including 6 mm, as a separate line.

What pressure can a 1/8" tube fitting handle?

Wall thickness and alloy determine the working-pressure rating, figured from standard tube-pressure tables under ASME B31.3. What materials are 1/8" fittings available in?

316/316L and 304/304L stainless lead the lineup, alongside 904L, Duplex 2205, and Super Duplex 2507. Round it out with 254 SMO, AL-6XN, Alloy 20, Monel, Inconel, Incoloy, Hastelloy, Nickel 200/201, and Titanium Grade 2. Brass isn't offered for instrumentation fittings.

Single or double ferrule for 1/8"?

Both. Double, or twin, ferrules are the standard choice for demanding gas and vibration service. Single ferrules go in where the spec calls for them, with hardened or non-hardened ferrules supplied to requirement.

How do you install and gauge a 1/8" tube fitting?

Insert the tube all the way into the fitting until it bottoms out against the shoulder. Tighten the nut finger-tight, then pull it up the specified number of turns past that point, typically 3/4 turn for 1/8" and other small sizes, to swage the ferrule onto the tube's outer diameter. Before pressurizing, check the assembly with a gap-inspection gauge to confirm the pull-up is correct. If you're remaking the connection, reset the nut to the position it was previously pulled up to.
