It separates CO2, methane and helium while pulling out H2S through amine treating, cryogenic separation and acid-gas injection. To date it's captured more CO2 than any industrial facility on the planet, and a CCS expansion will add up to roughly 1.2 Mt CO2/yr on top of that. The very high H2S partial pressure makes this the defining sulfide-stress-cracking environment in the state. Every DP transmitter and gauge hook-up on the treating trains carries a manifold because of it. This is, without question, the primary driver behind the sour gas processing work here.
Soda ash and trona come next. The Green River basin, in Sweetwater County, sits on the world's largest natural soda-ash deposit. Genesis Alkali (WE Soda), Sisecam, Solvay Chemicals and Tata all mine it. It's an actively expanding patch, and it runs caustic, carbonate/bicarbonate and hot-brine process chemistry on its level and flow instrumentation.
Then there's uranium in-situ recovery. Uranium Energy Corp's Irigaray Central Processing Plant, spanning Campbell and Johnson County, drummed its first concentrate in February 2025. Ur-Energy's Lost Creek operation sits in the Great Divide basin in Sweetwater County. Cameco runs Smith Ranch-Highland in Converse County. The Powder River Basin covers oil, gas and coal.
