Sour service across upstream operations and coal gasification is the main driver behind demand in the region, calling for NACE MR0175 compliance paired with Inconel 625/825 and Duplex 2205 or Super Duplex 2507. Choosing the Alloy: 316/316L vs Duplex vs Inconel & Incoloy for North Dakota

Duplex 2205, Super Duplex 2507, Inconel 625 or Incoloy 825, all NACE MR0175-compliant, are the ones to step up to.

For clean, cold, sweet service, 316/316L remains the default. It handles the state's sub-arctic conditions and cryogenic-NGL duty well enough on its own. Where H₂S shows up, though, parts of the Bakken, the whole Beulah syngas train, those are the duties that call for the NACE MR0175-compliant grades above.
